# Lens thickness: inputs needed for an estimate

An estimate depends on prescription, material, shape and fitting. Refractive index alone does not determine final thickness.

## Prepare the simulation

Gather sphere, cylinder, axis, index, monocular measurements, fitting height and shape. Identify right and left eyes and check units before comparing scenarios.

## Controlled comparison

Keep prescription and frame constant when comparing indices. Record changing assumptions and distinguish a digital estimate from the manufactured lens.
